Harvie Conn

12’ tall plastiline maquette on wire armature

This 12-inch maquette came out of my growing respect for the man even after his death, as I read his writings and continued to hear him say "remember the city!" The maquette served as a proposal piece for a larger bronze work to be installed on the WTS campus. His close friend Dr. Ortiz wept when he saw it. Others were ready to write checks to make it happen. Alas, it was never realized, and the maquette eventually had to be destroyed. I didn't cast it either ... but the idea lives on. Maybe I'll paint him ... Anyone interested? Those who knew Harvie knew he loved to teach in his bib overalls, so it seemed appropriate even for a formal sculpture portrait.
