Haj

Oil on canvas - 2010 - 41cm x 51cm - (sold, private collection, Germany)

I passed this pensive gentleman several times before capturing the photo from which this composition came. During the process I started calling him “Haj” after the common nickname for someone who has returned from the pilgrimage to Mecca. In my imagination, he is deep in a reverie of thought far from the street in Chefchaouen where I found him, weighing the important things of life and of the mysteries of faith.
